Give Them Something to Talk About

Hoisting yourself up off the couch to check on your crying baby after only 15 minutes of solitude might make you a bit flustered. But, as you peer over the edge of the crib and read “Face it… It’s time to call Grandma,” you can’t help but chuckle and let a smile stretch across your face.

Babies are wonderful. But, let’s be honest, when the primary noise emanating from their vocal chords is a continuous cry, we can’t wait for them to learn to talk. Well, unfortunately the technology hasn’t quite been developed to increase the rate at which babies learn to speak. However, as a parent, you can utilize cute baby clothes as a means of giving your child something to say.

Witty phrases have been finding their way onto clothing for a number of years. Think about the clothing you see teenagers sporting today. Some shirts you like. Some you don’t like. Well, when you’re dressing a baby, shopping for baby clothes online allows you easy access to the clothes you like. Your baby might still cry, but, trust me, they aren’t complaining about what their shirt says. Find something you think is funny and cute. It might just make that excursion up the stairs and into the realm of crying babies a bit more enjoyable.

Puppy Pads

Being “in the dog house” is never an ideal spot for a human. But for dogs, being in the dog house can be a luxurious locale after a long day of fetch and chasing birds around the backyard. That said, even your average canine aspires to own more than a cardboard box as a home.

Providing your pup with a suitable home isn’t too much to ask, right? These days, people are constructing dog houses from wood and plastic to resemble cabins, barns, and even your own home. Basically, you can get as elaborate as you desire. If you feel like setting your pet up with a home that looks like it should be resting on the French Riviera, go for it. However, purchasing a dog house doesn’t have to be like keeping up with the Joneses. It’s not likely that people are going to judge you on the type of dog house you own, but there are a few things to consider.

When dog house shopping, you want to consider the type and size of the dog. It might be deemed cruel and unusual punishment to place a 120-pound Rottweiler in a tiny pink dog house with floral designs. Contrarily, it’s probably a waste of space to give your chiwawa a 25-square-foot mini mansion. Also, keep your own taste in mind. Sure the house is for the dog, but it’s also in, or around, your home. This last tip might seem like a no-brainer, but we all know a thing or two about regretful purchases. So, make sure it fits your needs as well as your dogs.

Tips for Burping Your Baby

Every new experience with a baby is an exciting one. And, yes, burping is one of them. When babies feed they tend to swallow air bubbles which can lead them to feel uncomfortable and gaseous. Breast-fed babies are likely to swallow less air when feeding, but, regardless, it's important to keep watch on your child's comfort level and remember to burp them. There isn't an exact science as to how you should burp your child, but the following tips should lend a helping hand.

First things first, find a burp cloth. Babies will spit up from time to time, and while it may only be about a teaspoon of liquid, you don't want that getting on you or your baby. Once you've secured a line of defense between your baby's chin and your clothing, try the following:

Over your shoulder

Position your baby over your shoulder so that your collar bone places some pressure on their tummy. Gently rub and pat their back until they burp.

Over your lap

Drape your baby across your thigh (or thighs) with their belly down. With your legs applying pressure to their tummy and one of your hands supporting the baby's head, gently rub and pat their back until they burp.

The "Bulldoggy Burp"

Place your hand across your baby's chest and support their chin with your thumb and index finger. Using the pressure of your support hand, gently begin to rub and pat your baby's back until they burp.

Sitting on your lap

This is a bit of a combination of the previous two techniques. Sit your child in your lap, and, similar to the bulldoggy burp, place your hand under their chin. Proceed to lean your child forward at the waist and begin gently rubbing and patting their back until they burp.

Burping is different from baby to baby, but your child's comfort level is all that matters. Like I said before, there is no exact science, so try a few positions and see what works best with your baby.
